The 2021 Gamescom event reached 13 million viewers over the course of last week’s online show. The Opening Night Live showcase saw 6 million viewers, an increase of 30% from last year. Next year’s show will take place in a hybrid format, bringing the audience together in person and keeping some successful online elements.
PUBG creator Brendan Greene has founded a new independent studio, PlayerUnknown Productions, based in Amsterdam. Krafton, current owner and publisher of PlayerUnkown’s Battlegrounds, will hold a minority stake in the new company, which will focus on new systems for massive scale open-world games.
New mid-year info, published by Kickstarter, shows an increase in the submission of game projects over the same period last year. In the first half of 2021, 649 video games projects were submitted, up from 588 last year. 184 of those projects reached their fundraising goals for a total of $13Mil.
