Polygon has rounded up all the announcements from Tuesday night’s Gamescom 2022 Opening Night Live. The show featured trailers and teasers for new games such as Hogwart’s Legacy, Tales from the Borderlands, and Gotham Knights; a new Spotify podcast from developer Hideo Kojima; a new controller from PlayStation; and a Pokémon-themed car from Mini.
Gamescom 2022’s opening featured a surprise announcement from Funcom of a new survival MMO set in the Dune universe. The setting takes inspiration from both Frank Herbert’s novels and Denis Villeneuve’s film, and the gameplay will combine the exploration and creativity of survival crafting and open-world games with the persistent multiplayer that is featured in popular MMOs.
Bungie hosted its third annual Destiny 2 Showcase on Tuesday, coinciding with the start of its newest season, the pirate-themed Season of Plunder. The showcase featured information about the new season’s rewards and activities, the reveal of the next expansion called Lightfall, the game’s arrival on the Epic Games Store, and a crossover event with Epic’s Fortnite featuring new skins for both games.
IGN has an interview with Bethesda veteran Jeff Gardiner on what’s in the works at his new studio, Something Wicked Games. The studio has announced a new open-world fantasy game, Wyrdsong, in development with veteran developers from both Bethesda and Obsidian, making this a dream collaboration for many Fallout fans.
