Spelunky creator to release 50 games

Some indie developers follow up their game with a sequel, others release fifty titles instead. Derek Yu, creator of the hit indie title Spelunky, has announced that his next title is a collection of fifty full-content games that he collaborated on with several other developers. These games range from 2d super dodgeball to dungeon crawlers and all have the same 32-color-palette aesthetic, and roughly 1/3rd of them will support local multiplayer.

Xbox One Dashboard Gets an Update

The Xbox One Dashboard (user interface on the console) is getting its second update this year, and it’s a big one. The most noticeable feature is a customizable home screen where users can pick and choose what pops up first and the layout, rather than the predetermined layout it had before. Xbox is also getting “Game Bar”, a feature currently in place on Windows 10 which is supposed to enable the easy sharing of screenshots and videos, it’s history has been buggy. The update will also see another “Guide” overhaul, which should make it easier to switch between games and snap apps.

Valve Teases Dota 2 Card Game

Not much is known about this game other than it will feature three boards and characters from Valve’s multiplayer online battle arena game, Dota 2. Card games are becoming more and more common these days with franchises like Fable, The Elder Scrolls, and The Witcher all launching card games within the last year.

Blizzard Update – Two Releases This Week

  1. Overwatch Summer Games – Overwatch’s Summer Games are back with beach/sports-themed skins for many of the game’s heroes, as well as a revamped Lucio Ball mode with competitive play! There was some issues at the launch, but servers have recovered as of this morning.
  2. Overwatch Adds Deathmatch – As if a new event wasn’t enough, Overwatch director, Jeff Kaplan, announced Thursday that Overwatch will be getting team deathmatch, and 7v7 free-for-all modes added to the arcade. This update will also come with a new map set in Widowmaker’s home and is currently available for testing on the PTR.
  3. Hearthstone: Knights of the Frozen Throne – Hearthstone added a new expansion on Thursday with 135 new cards themed around death knights and the frozen throne.

Microsoft Hints at Achievements Change

In an interview with the Xbox platform corporate vice president, Mike Ybarra, it was teased that in addition to the dashboard update, some major changes to achievements will be coming soon. While basic achievements will remain, he spoke to a new way of showcasing gamer’s accomplishments that is less prescriptive and more based on the individual.

– Hellblade: Senua’s Scarifice (PS4) – Some sort of demon/hell RPG type thing.
– Lawbreakers (PC/PS4) – Fast-paced first person shooter with parkour mechanics
