Nintendo acquires animation studio that’ll become ‘Nintendo Pictures’ – TheVerge.com

With the upcoming release of a new Super Mario Bros. movie and the success of Detective Pikachu, Nintendo has acquired a CG production company and is gearing up to translate more Nintendo IP into digital films. Nintendo announced that it would buy 100 percent of the remaining shares of Dynamo Pictures, with the company becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Nintendo called Nintendo Pictures.

 

League of Legends’ magical girls return in a multi-game summer event – Polygon.com

Another Star Guardians event is coming to League of Legends, Wild Rift, and Legends of Runeterra. Star Guardians lore takes place in an alternate universe starring a group of high school students entrusted with cosmic powers. It is currently one of the most popular subcultures in the League of Legends fandom. The event starts July 14th and will run over two patches this summer featuring new skins, cosmetics, and lore.

 

Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco confirms reports it was hacked – TheVerge.com

Bandai Namco has confirmed reports this week that the company was hacked by a known ransomware collective. The hacker group ALPHV, also known as BlackCat, gained unauthorized access to internal systems at the company covering Asian regions excluding Japan on July 4th. While the company confirmed the breach, Bandai Namco has not indicated what data was leaked, or how extensive the damage might be.

 

52% of U.S. gamers believe the metaverse will change the game industry – VentureBeat.com

According to a recent survey by Globant and YouGov, about 52% of gamers feel that the multiverse will change the gaming industry. By a wide margin (73%), Meta is viewed by respondents as the top company associated with the metaverse. Other findings indicated about 35% of respondents were comfortable with advertising in the metaverse, while 49% showed more interest in playing games rather than earning rewards like cosmetics or NFTs.
