A former Nintendo executive has started a special acquisitions company with a focus on gaming, digital media, and entertainment. The company will begin trading on the Nasdaq on Thursday and expects to raise $200 million.
Riot Games’ former head of global esports, John Needham, has been promoted to President of Esports with the company. Needham will now oversee all of Riot Games’ esports efforts under one unified division, including esports leagues, teams, players, and high-profile events.
Funcom is bringing a German developer Nukklear on board for a new open-world survival game set in Frank Herbert’s Dune universe. Funcom acquired rights to make the game in 2019 and with a major investment from Tencent, the project has expanded in scope.
Fawzi Mesmar, the former head of design for Battlefield 2042, has joined Ubisoft as Vice President of Editorial. As a member of the editorial department, Fawzi will partner with Ubisoft’s worldwide production teams to shape the direction of the company, as well as ensure that diverse perspectives are included throughout the production process.
