Valve Declares Hands Off Policy
Developer and publisher Valve announced this week their latest policy for content curation in the wake of a game about school shootings being released on  their platform. The content sales and delivery platform announced they would take a hands off approach, not curating content sold.on the store beyond things that are actively illegal or “blatant trolling.” This comes after Valve pulled Active Shooter, a game where the player acts as a school shooter, getting points for shooting school kids and cops. Some have applauded Valve for not taking a stance and allowing developers to publish whatever their artistic vision brings, while other have criticized the company for allowing the sales of games built upon racism, sexism, and other forms of hate speech.
Game to Offer Blockchain Currency Rewards
Dungeon Defender 2 will be the first game to offer player rewards based upon Blockchain, developer Trendy Entertainment announced this week. The game will offer Loot, a Blockchain offering created by software company Signal Zero, which is derived through player actions in game. This creates a blockchain currency that can reward players for their actions without the game developer or publisher needing to put forward any rewards. The new system will go live something in Q1 of 2019.
Overwatch to Add Looking For Group Functionality
Overwatch will soon allow players to queue up based on role, Blizzard announced this week. The functionality is one many players have been requestion for quite some time. Once live, group leaders will be able to set group composition and disable role switching. They will also be able to filter on only players using voice chat. No word yet on an official launch date for this exciting new feature.
Facebook Launching Initiative Aimed At New Streamers
Facebook’s latest gaming initiative, Level Up, is designed to help game streamers new to their platform. Details are limited, but the program will help streamers find an audience and earn money for streaming. The latter will happen in part through Facebook Stars; virtual items viewers can purchase and send during streams.
