The NPD Group has reported increasing US game spending for July, finding consumer spending up 10% year-over-year. Content spending saw 6% growth, and hardware spending saw a gain of 98%. Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War topped the sales charts on both the Xbox and PlayStation platforms.
Jagex hires former Codemaster CFO Rashid Varachia – GamesIndustry.biz
Former Codemasters CFO, Rashid Varachia, has joined RuneScape developer Jagex. Varachia, who contributed to Codemasters’ successful flotation in 2018 and acquisition of Mad Studios in 2019, will now be taking on the CFO role at Jagex and serve on the board of directors.
Ex-Riot Games and Stunlock Studios devs form studio Box Dragon – GamesIndustry.biz
The Sweden-based game studio Box Dragon has announced a new post-apocalyptic game IP through publishing partner Coffee Stain. Box Dragon is founded by former Stunlock Studios game director Kevin Chang, CEO Karl Bergström, and former Riot Games concept artist Aleks Niksov. Coffee Stain is the publisher of the recent runaway hit, Valheim.
