Grand Theft Auto creator Dan Houser forms new company – Polygon.com

Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two, announced in February 2020 that Rockstar Games’ co-founder, Dan Houser, was leaving the company after an extended break. While full details are forthcoming on his new company, Absurd Ventures In Games, company filings indicate that it is either a new studio or a capital investment firm specializing in electronic entertainment.

 

 

Game deals for H1 2021 almost double total 2020 investments – GamesIndustry.biz

At the halfway point of 2021, acquisitions, public offerings, and investments in the games industry have nearly doubled the amount for the full year of 2020. Totals for 2021 have reached $60 Billion across 635 deals announced or closed over the last six months. Microsoft tops the charts with their acquisition of Zenimax Media for $7.5 billion.

 

 

Amazon Lumberyard goes open source – GamesIndustry.biz

With a full-release slated for late 2021, Amazon’s Lumberyard game engine is going open-source. As part of their Open 3D Foundation Initiative, Linux is releasing an updated version of the engine, named Open 3D Engine (O3DE), under the Apache 2.0 license.
