Fortnite will be a launch title for PS5 and Xbox Series X – GameSpot

Epic Games has announced that Fortnite will be a launch title for both the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X. They have also announced that Fortnite will feature cross-progression and backward-cross play. CEO, Tim Sweeney, also said that Fortnite would be moving to the Unreal 5 engine in 2021. Unreal 5 was just recently announced and will be putting much more power in the developer’s hands.

 

PS5 tech demo – GameSpot

Alongside the unveiling of the Unreal Engine 5, Epic Games has released a tech demo to showcase the engine’s capabilities. This real-time demo, called “Lumen in the Land of Nantine,” showcases what Unreal 5 is capable of in real-time. Lumen refers to the new dynamic lighting system that allows for better global lighting to change dynamically. Nanite refers to the new geometry system which uses micropolygon geometry, which allows artists to create nearly an unlimited amount of polygon count and place as much detail in scenes as the eye can perceive. The demo is fully playable and interactable.

 

PS5 Still on track for Holiday 2020 release – Polygon

Sony has announced that their PS5 is still on track for it’s planned Holiday 2020 release. Although current world events have impacted the development and testing for the PS5, the product is on schedule to meet its release date. No significant issues have arisen from a software standpoint in production, but everything has had a small impact on the PS4’s software production, slowing down updates. Sony has not released much else about its upcoming console, in comparison with Microsoft, which has been forthcoming with details on its Xbox Series X.

 

Valorant team bans over 8,000 cheaters in its closed beta – Polygon

Riot’s new competitive shooter, Valorant, is still in closed beta. The anticipating players can get keys from watching participating Twitch streams. Some aspects of the game, including the anti-cheat system, are being fine-tuned. Purportedly, the system is blocking users from playing even though they were playing fair. In a tweet from Epic Games’ anti-cheat developer, the company has banned nearly 9,000 accounts due to suspicious activity.
